Winona State University Gets Serious About Sustainability

In an effort to become a carbon neutral campus, ten subcommittees have been formed by faculty and staff at Winona State University in order to make major changes toward that goal. On February 10, committee representatives presented their initiatives and accomplishments. Several scheduled projects were introduced to the campus community.

For example, on main campus this spring, students will see solar powered pumps incorporated into two decorative fountains. One will be in front of the Performing Arts Center and the other by Gildemeister Hall. This is possible because of a $500 grant from the Minnesota Schools Cutting Carbon program, funded by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. WSU continues to design, explore and implement sustainability projects … a solar charging kiosk, car/bike-sharing programs, recycling stations, and sustainability curriculum are all magic in the works at WSU!
