Minnesota Schools Cutting Carbon

All week our environmental club has been going door to door talking with constituents of our district, district 2, about calling our congressman, John Kline, and urging him to pass the ACES Carbon Cap-and-Trade bill. We have had many people call, and hopefully under all the constituent pressure, he will vote yes for the bill. Kline is a moderate Republican, so this would be a huge victory for the House if republicans vote yes to this bill.

This is what we have been handing out. Make sure to take action if you haven’t yet. If you use this number, 877-9-737-6937, they will connect you to your representative based on your area code. It’s a little scary to do the first time, but trust me, you will feel incredible after you do it. We only have until Friday! Take action! Go door to door telling your neighbors to call!

We have a historic opportunity to cap carbon emissions and put people back to work, rebuilding a new, green economy.

The House of Representatives is set to vote Friday on the Waxman-Markey American Clean Energy and Security Act. (Otherwise known as the Carbon Cap-and-Trade bill, ACES, or HR 2454.) This historic bill will invest in America, create jobs, curb our climate change emissions, boost us ahead of the rest of the world once again, and free us from foreign oil.

Even if you do not believe in global climate change, this will encourage companies to stop polluting our air, and killing our wildlife.

I strongly urge you to join the movement and tell our representative of Congressional District 2, Congressman John Kline, to vote for for the Waxman-Markey bill.

Thousands of people will die from heat waves that will hit the Twin Cities area before the end of the century if the current warming continues. Our lakes will continue to sink and dry up. Much of the coasts will disappear completely underwater by the end of the century if we don’t pass major legislation now.

Please help pass this bill for the good of the world. Without it, Minnesota could be forever changed for the worse. Thousands upon thousands of people will die, and our economy will be crippled.

What you can do:
John Kline is on the fence on whether to vote for or against this bill. He makes most of his decisions based on constituent input. He is a key swing vote. If we can convince him to vote for this bill, he may be the swing vote that passes this bill, and we, the people of Savage, will change the world forever. But they vote Friday, so action is needed NOW.

Step 1: Call him directly. (202)-225-2271 It takes less then 5 minutes. Here is a sample script:
Hi, my name is [insert name], I’d like to let Congressman Kline know that as one of his constituents, I am in full support of the Waxman-Markey Carbon Cap bill, and I hope he will vote to pass it. We need it in order to have any hope at sustaining our planet, and without it thousands of Minnesotans will die from heat strokes and other tragedies. Please let Congressman Kline know that I am in full support of this bill.

Step 2: Email him. Go to his website, http://kline.house.gov and click “Contact us” then in the middle of the page click “email here”. You can use the sample script above, but add in your own feelings as well.
