Earth Day Campus Cleanup

April 22, 2009 2:20-3:30 PM Osseo Senior High Osseo Senior High School

On behalf of Earth Day, Osseo Senior High’s Green Club will help out by picking up trash in the school’s parking lot and main entrance. Our hope is to set a positive example for our peers by picking up trash directly after school, when many students are in the parking lot and able to see the work being done. We also will post about 50 fluorescent green facts and tips sheets in the hallways in order to increase awareness for ‘living green’. Some of the facts/tips sheets include information such as: Stop buying mechanical pencils. Buy #2 wooden pencils, instead; Eat and buy organic or local foods; Carpool with your friends; Planting one tree saves 2000 pounds of carbon dioxide per year; Home air conditioning uses nearly 5% of all the electricity produced in the U.S.; and “Be the change you want to see in the world -Gandhi.” One of the largest green facts sheet will be hung in the cafeteria, saying “Osseo Senior High saved $46,424 by reducing our energy use in 2008.” This positive fact is meant to encourage students and to show how much we have already accomplished.
