The Irish Green Team presented their carbon cutting, energy saving plan at the CERTS Clean Energy Convergence on Feb. 3. The Green team promotes an “Action of the Month” to help get the school to avoid phantom loads, recycle more, walk or bike to school, turn off the lights and other energy and resource saving behaviors. Energy misers have been installed on vending machines, motion activated light sensors in lecture rooms and teachers are using power strips to eliminate phantom loads. Energy is also being conserved by replacing damaged weather stripping on doors and replacing inefficient CRT computer monitors with more efficient LCD monitors. Teachers are posting class resources through Moodle and this is helping to conserve paper. RHS has cut its energy use by 10% and paper use by 8% to date.
