The HCC Fiesta 5K race staff is committed to making the 2009 edition of the race as Green as possible! The goals of this effort include minimizing the waste and carbon footprint generated by the event.
Reducing: We will use compostable utensils, compostable bags for food leftovers, put fewer “goddies” in race bags, and provide “bulk” post-race refreshments. Reusing: Race materials will be put in donated canvas shopping bags for each runner. Recycling: Every effort will be made to recycle any glass, plastic, and metals generated as a result of the event. “Gently-used” running shoes will be collected for donation. Education: Literature will be available to runners to help them find ways to become greener runners. In joining the growing wave of sustainable running races nationally, the HCC Fiesta 5K also helps to put a public face to the local sustainability movement at Hibbing Community College.
