Global Day of Climate Action

October 23, 2009 Grand Rapids, MN Itasca Community College

On Friday, October 23rd, students, faculty and staff from Itasca Community College will gather to promote awareness and education as part of the largest day of climate change activism ever. Participants will join more than 3,700 communities in 162 countries as part of a global day of action coordinated by 350.org to urge world leaders to take bold and immediate steps to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
Around the world on Saturday, Oct. 24 from capitol cities to the melting slopes of Mount Everest, even underwater on dying coral reefs — people will hold rallies aimed at focusing attention on the number 350 because scientists have insisted in recent years that 350 parts per million is the most carbon dioxide we can safely have in the atmosphere. The current carbon dioxide concentration is 390 parts per million.
Activities for Friday include showing a collage of pictures of students, faculty, and staff reducing their carbon footprint, a postcard signing event to urge President Obama to take strong action against climate change, a raffle of sustainably produced products, and a sustainable shopping website display.
