*The Itasca Community College’s wildlife pond was built in 1989 as a way to protect and study local wildlife at the school. The pond was part of the Landscaping for Wildlife project and was directed primarily by Harry Hutchins, along with several volunteers. The pond was rebuilt in the summer of 2008 with the help of Dan Dix and WoodSpirit Gardens. He, along with numerous biology, forestry, and other students and volunteers helped to create the beautiful pond we see today. The pond, while not completely natural, gives the campus an allure that brings in wildlife, such as frogs, birds, and insects, as well as native plant species, such as wild rice. The ICC wildlife pond is truly a balanced ecosystem, and a beautiful one at that.
