Stop the Plastic Forks!

Other

La Crescent Middle and High School has been using plastic forks for many years in the cafeteria and we decided to change that. We are now using real silverware which will eliminate the amount of plastic being thrown out at lunch time and will also reduce the cost.

Prevent students from throwing away the real silverware to keep the project going for many years to come. We will inforce this by having janitors and other staff by the trash bin to make sure students don’t throw away the silverware and also put posters up throughout the cafeteria.

Recycle

Other

Recycling is a easy and great way to go green! You can start recycling at your home, school, or business. We decided to implement a recycling program at our school so we could reduce our carbon footprint and save the school thousands of dollars. We placed recycling bins right next to garbage bins and put up signs that said garbage and recycle and also put up signs that told students and staff what is recyclable and what isn’t. We have noticed a huge difference now that our school is recycling. We have reduced our garbage pick up days per week and our recycling bin outside is always full and the garbage bin is manly filled with left over food from the cafeteria.

To educate students and staff the benefits of recycling and how easy it can be. We would also like to see the program to continue and grow as years pass and we plan on reminding students and staff on what to recycle and that the bins are there for a purpose. Students and staff need to really ask themselves each time they go by these bins “Is this recyclable?”
