After a successful inaugural year as a team in the YES program, the Springfield High School teams is excited to start another energy-conscious year! Our team has more than doubled its original size, showing that energy and climate are important to our students and community.
This year, the YES team is focused on projects both in our school and in our community. Here are the projects we’re working on for 2009-2010:
SCHOOL
-Expand recycling to include glass and aluminum.
-Begin school-wide composting of cafeteria waste.
-Install motion-detectors on locker room and bathroom light fixtures.
-Design and install a green roof over the science classrooms.
-Lobby TV powered by alternative energy.
-Begin EMP (Energy Monitoring Patrol) Program in the Elementary Building.
COMMUNITY
-Solar lighting of Springfield’s Municipal Trail.
-“YES Corner” weekly articles in Springfield’s Advance Press.
-Expand recycling to local businesses.
-Involve community in green roof plans.
